Officers blocked off part of the motorway for nearly three hours while responding to 'an incident on an over bridge' at Junction 4 yesterday evening, according to North West Motorway Police.

Desperate passengers caught in the tailback were seen dragging their suitcases towards the airport, fearful they would miss their flights. See photos after the cut
