Court sentenced man to 6years imprisonment for stabbing his mom 20 times during cocaine fight

A son who stabbed his mother 20 times in a cocaine-fuelled frenzy has been jailed for just six years after she pleaded with a judge to show him mercy.

Builder Matthew Bennett, 32, of Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands, left his mother Vivian Wilde, 63, fighting for her life after the horrific attack on March 14 this year.

But his mother refused to make a complaint against her son and even sent a letter to the court pleading with the judge to be lenient.

Bennett pleaded guilty to a charge of wounding with intent when he appeared at Birmingham Crown Court last Friday.

But despite the usual starting point being a 12 year sentence, he was sentenced to just six years in jail with an extended licence period of five years.

The court heard Bennett had developed a belief he should not live for longer than his brother, who tragically died in a road accident at the age of 32 in 2011.

Despite seeking counselling and remaining free of drugs for a long period, he took a gram of cocaine on March 14 which was just weeks before his 32nd birthday.
