ISIS uses Greek refugee camp to issue fake documents to terrorists they are sending to Europe

ISIS has been distributing fake passports in Greek refugee camps to allow its terrorists to travel within Europe on 'clean' identity documents.

Europol has found several fake passports in camps as the terror group hopes to use the ongoing humanitarian crisis to smuggle jihadis into Europe to launch a new wave of attacks.

The specialist anti-terrorist officers believe there is a ratline of terrorists from Iraq and Syria, to Greece and Austria.

Italian newspaper La Stampa warned of official fears that false papers were being used by terrorists plotting attacks.

According to La Stampa: 'In particular they [Europol] have identified fake passports in the refugee camps in Greece that were destined to supposed members of ISIS.'

Europol has smashed a number of document forgery operations in Greece and the Czech republic.

One group of criminals were based in Athens.  A second group in the Czech Republic altered stolen travel documents and sold them onto migrants.

The documents cost between €100-€3,000 depending on their quality and the country of issue.

Speaking earlier, Rob Wainwright, Europol Director said: 'In the last two years we have seen criminal gangs increasingly investing more in the production of fake documents to support a growing criminal market associated with the migrant crisis.

'Document fraud is now a highly important enabler of organised crime operated by groups involved in stealing or producing counterfeit passports and other travel documents.

'This operation shows our shared determination in Europe to investigate and disrupt those criminals involved in this illegal activity.'

In July, Europol deployed a mobile team of operatives to Austria and Hungary to target one of the many people smuggling groups in the region.

A group of 25 criminals, many of them Russian nationals of Chechen origin and a 44-year-old Syrian.

The gang charged migrants €300 for a trip from Hungary to Vienna and a further €800-€1,000 to get into Germany.
