10 people killed 30 injured in Philippine bomb blast in a busy market (Photos)

At least 12 people have been killed and another 24 injured after a bombing at a busy market in the Philippines.

Witnesses described hearing a loud bang before seeing smoke following the blast in Davao City on the southern Philippine island of Mindanao.

Controversial new president Rodrigo Duterte - who lives in the city - was in Davao at the time, but was far away from the area when the blast took place and is now safe at a police station.

Duterte - who has launched a violent crackdown on drugs since he was sworn in eight weeks ago - was recently the subject of an assassination attempt. Photos after the cut.
