Man beats up his student for owing him $4000 on marijuana

According to the NY Post, 48-year-old Kevin Pope, who is a Science teacher at John V. Lindsay Wildcat Academy, gave the young boy $4,000 in order to purchase marijuana. Apparently, he was referred to him through other students after inquiring about student drug dealers back in June.

The victim had complied and met up with someone who would have provided him with the drugs at Central Park, only to be told that the purchase would actually cost $7,000. Welp, instead of going back to Pope with the new info, the student decided to blow the cash on himself!

Pope had eventually caught up with the student yesterday two blocks away from the Hunts Point school and asked for his money back. When the student told him that he had spent it, Pope lost it. Not only did he punch the victim in the face a few times, Pope also stole his iPhone 6, gold chain and wallet.

After the beating, Pope allegedly demanded that the money be returned in a month. A source also alleged that the 48-year-old threatened to sexually assault the victim’s mother if he did not comply. The student was taken to the hospital where he received three staples to the back of his head.

Unfortunately for Pope, the whole ordeal was caught on tape. He was arrested this morning and charged with assault and robbery. Students were shocked when news broke about the incident.

“(He was) a straight up teacher,” an anonymous student said according to the NY Daily News. “He’d make you understand the lessons. I never knew him to be shady.”
