Zabivaka gets into his new role as the Russia World Cup mascot for the 2018 tournament (Photos)

Believe it or not the preparations for the next World Cup are well underway and now Russia 2018 has a mascot for the global showpiece event.

Designed by student Ekaterina Bocharova, Zabivaka the wolf has been chosen to represent the tournament.

The wolf stormed to victory with 53 per cent of the one million strong Russian public vote ahead of a tiger (27 per cent) and Cat (20 per cent), before being congratulated by Brazilian World Cup legend Ronaldo. Continue to see more photos below.
