Nigeria hires Indian coach for Cricket League Division to be hosted in UK

Nigeria yesterday said the employment of an Indian coach will boost its performance at this month’s World Cricket League Division 5 to be hosted by the United Kingdom. Manager, Nigeria’s National Cricket Team, Mr Olisa Egwuatu (R), speaking on the team’s victory at the Jersey 2013 World Cricket League in Abuja. Team Nigeria defeated Vanuatu, Bahrain, Kuwait and Argentina but lost to Jersey, to pick a silver medal in the competition.

Team manager of the Nigerian Cricket Foundation Joshua Eshua told Xinhua the choice of the Indian coach, Shrinam Reganathan, who was employed on voluntary basis, will take the country far in the competition organized by the International Cricket Council (ICC). Reganathan, a level A, certified coach under the Board of Control of Cricket in India, was included in Nigeria’s team technical crew following previous unimpressive performance, the Nigerian cricket official said. “We are happy to have such a coach that has attained the highest level of coaching training in India. India is one of the best cricket nations in the world and we strongly believe his wealth of experience will impact positively on our team at the ICC league,” he said. The official added that the team would depart the country on May 11 on a training tour to Essex in London to acclimatize before departing for the league. More than 14 Nigerian cricket players have been invited to camp ahead of the training tour and competition.
