Photos: Rio 2016 Olympics suffers security challenge as bullet is fired through roof of equestrian media centre

Security at Rio 2016 was seriously undermined when a live round apparently shot from a firearm came through the roof of a media centre at the equestrian venue with the bullet landing mere feet from photographers.

There were around 50 people inside a photographer's workroom at the Deodoro competition venue where many British Olympians will go for gold over the next few weeks when the bullet entered, scorching a hole through the canvas roof.

There was speculation that it was fired from a nearby military base although some witnesses pointed out that a favela could be seen from the top of the spectator stands
