Brentford star Alan McCormack faces five match ban by FA

Football Association has announced that Brentford midfielder Alan McCormack has been suspended for five games after being found guilty of misconduct.

The 32-year-old has been punished for using "abusive and/or insulting words towards a match official" in the second half of the Bees' 2-1 victory over Cardiff City in April last season.

A statement from the FA read: "It was further alleged that this breach was an 'aggravated breach' as defined in FA Rule E3(2), as it included a reference to gender.

"The player denied the charge, however, it was found proven following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing on Thursday [October 20, 2016]."

McCormack, who was also fined £6,000 and ordered to attend an education course, will miss games against Barnsley, Queens Park Rangers, Fulham, Blackburn Rovers and Birmingham City.
