Conor McGregor threatens to beat Eddie Alvarez have go unconscious at UFC 205 (Photos)

Conor McGregor his roundly dismissed the capabilities of lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez ahead of their fight at UFC 205.

The Irishman chastised Alvarez as a solid but unspectacular opponent, unable to compete at the same technical level.

McGregor told LadBible: 'You know, I don't think he poses any threat. He's a tough kid. He's got some good fights under his belt. But I don't see it going well for him. You know he will be unconscious.'

Arguably the most charismatic fighter in the UFC, McGregor has a habit of picking his opponents apart verbally before the physical confrontation.

He made no bones about the shortcomings of Alvarez who he deemed an average fighter who was easy to replicate in training partners.

'This time we've gone back to 5-foot-7 stalky stuffed wrestlers with mediocre boxing. That's the opponent I'm going up against.

'We've got solid boxers (for this camp), we've got solid wrestlers. That is a body type (Eddie's) that is very easily found.

'It's like a… It's easy really. It's a lot better for me. It's handy. I don't have to go out and source these taller, bigger.

'There's a million opponents and training partners that replicate this next opponents style.'
