It represents a rapid change of heart by Messi towards his body art, as just four weeks ago he posted a snap on Instagram of himself in the Barcelona gym, with his tattoos on full and proud display.
Messi is a known lover of body art, also sporting designs on his right arm and shoulder, and has previously shared photos the work getting done on himself.
His focus this week has turned from his tattoos to his football however, as he and his Argentina team mates concentrate on Thursday's huge World Cup qualifier against rivals Brazil. Continue to see photos below.
