Manchester City Yaya Toure accepts drinking charges... Buts admit it was not intentional

Yaya Toure claimed he has never knowingly consumed alcohol despite accepting a drink-driving charge for being more than twice the legal limit.

The Manchester City midfielder appeared at Barkingside Magistrates' Court after driving under the influence in Dagenham, east London.

Toure was found to be more than double the drink drive limit with his breathalyser test showing 75mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.

He has been handed an 18-month driving ban and a £54,000 fine.

Toure did not contest the charge but insisted he wanted to make the judge aware any alcohol consumption was unintentional. The 33-year-old said he was at a party with friends and was drinking Diet Coke from a jug, which he later found out had brandy in. However a judge said it was 'inconceivable' he did not know he was drinking and banned him from driving for 18 months and fined him £54,000.

He was pulled over at 11.15pm after police thought he was exceeding the 30mph speed limit in his £80,000 Audi RS6.

After being stopped in Dagenham, east London, he later convinced the court to move his appearance date a day before it was due 'to fit around his football training', court staff have confirmed.

He admitted drink driving but told the court that, despite feeling tired, he did not realise he was drunk.
