12 civilians killed as Saudi Arabia lead a coalition in Yemen

Twelve civilians have been killed in a Saudi-led coalition airstrike in Yemen, Sputnik Arabic reported yesterday.

The Saudi-led coalition aircraft targeted a family home in the Baqem directorate, killing 12 civilians including women and children. The family home was destroyed and turned into rubble.

Saudi Arabia has not made a statement regarding the aerial bombing.

The United Nations has repeatedly called for an investigation into war violations by parties to the Yemen civil war. Last week, the UN agreed to establish a group of experts to assess the allegations of war crimes in Yemen.

Saudi Arabia previousl threatened countries who support the United Nations probe in Yemen with the risk of cutting trade and diplomatic ties.

Saudi Arabia has received arms from the United Kingdom and United States which have been used in Yemen. Some 10,000 civilians have been killed in Yemen with human rights organisations regularly monitoring use of force in the country.

The Kingdom has led a coalition of Arab states in a bombing campaign since March 2015, to reinstate President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi and push back military advancements from the Iranian-backed Houthi group.
